I'm the former travel editor for The Wall Street Journal and news director at Travel + Leisure. Now I freelance, writing mostly about travel—but really about anything that lets me indulge my curiosity about the world. My work has appeared in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Vogue, Esquire, Conde Nast Traveler, Bloomberg, Businessweek, Fast Company, The Washington Post, Travel + Leisure, New York Post and many other publications. I’m the author of Away & Aware: A Field Guide to Mindful Travel
I was raised in New York City and graduated from the Johns Hopkins University and Columbia School of Journalism.
My first journalism job was at the Anniston Star in Alabama, where I covered chemical weapons and environmental issues. (I also spent a memorable New Year’s Day typing up obituaries.) It was an enormous responsibility that instilled in me the importance of good reporting.
Since then I've developed deep experience in print and digital media. I’ve covered real estate for Forbes, been a business editor at the New York Post and co-founded a startup that dominated the Great Recession. Whew.
